Please review these guidelines for appropriate organic plants, fertilizer, pesticide, and other inputs. If you have questions please type them in the text box provided. -- This community garden is intended for food and annual vegetable production, plot holders will select their plants accordingly. In general, plot holders will treat other beds with respect and avoid touching/interfering with other plots that are not their own. Plants that may interfere with other plots should be avoided or managed, this includes plants that may shade out other plots, interfere with pathways, or aggressively self seed. Biannual herbs (parsley, dill, cilantro) and vegetables such as brassicas (cabbage, broccoli, etc) are allowed and encouraged, but be aware these plots are leased out annually, and there is no guarantee you will get the same plot next year. Heirloom or open pollinated seed is encouraged as well as saving seed from plants that performed well. "Well behaved" flowering annuals are allowed and encouraged. These plants may be used to attract beneficial insects or pollinators (ex. zinnia, marigold, cosmos, pansy/viola, snapdragons.) Hardy perennial, woody, weedy, or invasive plants are not allowed to be directly planted. Perennials may be planted in pots and placed on the library back patio, with the permission from the Garden Programmer. Specific plants not allowed are sunchokes, Jerusalem artichokes, mint, horseradish, asparagus and comfrey. FERTILIZERS: Plot holders will agree to follow organic gardening principles and use only inputs approved by the Garden Programmer or library. This includes the use of synthetic or chemical herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, or human waste products on plots or pathways. Plot holders will also be aware of drift when spraying and avoid spraying on windy days. Horticultural vinegar as herbicide should be avoided or used minimally. Certified Naturally Grown and OMRI are good resources for appropriate inputs.
